Project Details
Ngenge plains are highly favourable for rapid crop growth and have strong potential to become a major food basket for the region if reliable water access is secured. Currently, GVM Company Ltd applies water through open channels, a method that is labour-intensive, inefficient, and prone to water losses through seepage and evaporation. With the development of the valley dam, GVM aims to progressively transition to more efficient water distribution systems, subject to the availability of development financing. Planned improvements include solar-powered pumping, storage reservoirs, piped distribution, and drip or sprinkler irrigation systems. These upgrades would improve water-use efficiency, expand dry-season production, reduce crop failure, and unlock the full agricultural potential of the Ngenge plains.
