Accelerating Uganda's Ten-Fold Economic Growth Through Sustainable Cereal Production and Value Chain Development

Demonstrating the Power of Improved Agricultural Practices

Project Details

The maize crop shown below, established using certified seed supplied by Simlaw Seeds Company, demonstrates the significant impact of adopting modern and climate-smart farming practices. The excellent crop performance highlights the importance of using certified seed, timely planting, effective water management, and proper weed control in achieving high yields and improved farm productivity. As Uganda seeks to accelerate agricultural transformation and contribute to the national Ten-Fold Economic Growth Strategy, investments in quality inputs and improved agronomic practices remain essential for increasing food production, farmer incomes, and market competitiveness. However, despite the promising production potential, one of the major constraints facing large-scale cereal producers is the lack of adequate post-harvest infrastructure. The absence of modern harvesting machinery, grain drying facilities, and warehousing systems exposes farmers to significant post-harvest losses, quality deterioration, and reduced market value. Addressing these gaps through investments in mechanization, drying technologies, and storage infrastructure will be critical to unlocking the full economic potential of Uganda's cereal value chains and ensuring sustainable growth in the sector. For GVM Company Ltd, priority investments in harvesting equipment, grain dryers, and warehouse facilities will enable efficient aggregation, preservation of grain quality, reduction of losses, and improved access to higher-value domestic and regional markets, thereby strengthening the company's contribution to Uganda's agricultural modernization and economic transformation agenda.
